Delta APC United! Commissioner Ekedayen Calls Congress ‘Democracy in Action

Asaba, Delta State – Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Hon. Sonny Ekedayen, has described the APC State Congress held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Cenotaph in Asaba as a “powerful demonstration of democracy in action.”

Speaking after the event, Ekedayen said, “This congress shows the strength and unity of our party. We are now one big APC family, and when we step into the 2027 elections, we will be unstoppable.” He urged the new leadership to carry everyone along and make inclusive decisions that reflect the interests of all members.

At the congress, the party elected a new State Working Committee (SWC) through a consensus process. Chief Solomon Arenyeka, a former PDP chairman, emerged as the new Delta APC State Chairman, signaling a fresh chapter for the party in the state. Other key executives include Elder Moses Iduh (Deputy Chairman), Chief Efe Uko (State Secretary), Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central Chairman), and Christopher Agali (Youth Leader) among others.

The Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, confirmed that the election followed party guidelines and the consensus list was affirmed by delegates. Former Speaker Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei moved for the dissolution of the previous executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie, which was unanimously adopted.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised the peaceful conduct of the congresses across 270 wards and 25 local governments, calling it a testament to the discipline and unity of the party. He also charged the new executive to immediately strengthen grassroots structures and mobilize support for the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the APC will deliver massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party candidates.

The immediate past chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, reminded the new leadership to lead with humility, saying, “Ability may take a man to the top, but humility keeps him there.”

In his acceptance speech, Chief Arenyeka pledged to promote unity, accountability, and inclusiveness within the party, promising that the new executive would work tirelessly to consolidate gains and deliver victory in the upcoming elections.

The congress ended on a celebratory note, with party members expressing optimism that the consensus-driven leadership will strengthen the APC’s position across Delta State.
