In a significant move to curb environmental violations, the Lagos State Government has sealed off Donald’s, a restaurant owned by celebrity bartender Cubana Chief Priest. The restaurant, which launched in August and operated 24/7, faced closure due to non-compliance with environmental regulations, primarily noise pollution.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted the reasons behind the action. In a social media statement, he confirmed that despite repeated warnings, Donald’s failed to address the infractions. “After several warnings and abatement notices, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) sealed Donald’s Fast Food on Adebayo Doherty Street, Lekki 1, over noise pollution and other environmental violations,” Wahab posted.
LASEPA further elaborated on the matter, emphasizing that the closure followed numerous complaints from local residents and businesses who reported disturbances caused by excessive noise from the establishment. Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, reiterated the agency’s stance, stating, “We will not tolerate any form of environmental pollution, including noise, which negatively impacts the health and well-being of the public.”
Ajayi also emphasized that the management of Donald’s had been advised to implement noise control measures and meet the state’s environmental standards before reopening would be considered.
LASEPA called on all businesses to respect environmental regulations and ensure that their operations do not infringe on the rights of others to live in a clean and peaceful environment, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to public health and environmental protection.
