The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has requested that Ibrahim Magu must face prosecution after his suspension as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The opposition party made the call in a series of tweets via it’s an official Twitter account on Wednesday, July 8.
The party said that after assessing the reported circumstances surrounding the investigation that indicted Magu, the acting EFCC chairman should be prosecuted.
The opposition party noted that Magu’s indictment reinforces its position that the war against corruption under his watch, has been a huge scam by corrupt individuals to cover various things including plundering of public resources.
According to PDP, this development has exposed why corruption, as documented by credible international organizations, has worsened under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The party further said Nigerians expect the president to enforce the law by directing relevant agencies to commence actions that would lead to Magu’s prosecution, adding that anything short of this will not be acceptable to the people.
Recall that Magu was reportedly suspended by President Buhari on Tuesday, July 7, to allow him to face a probe into the allegations of misconduct against him.
Magu’s reported suspension comes a day after he was summoned by a presidential panel for questioning over alleged violations against him.
The acting EFCC boss was reported to have been questioned for several hours by members of the panel in the presence of an EFCC counsel member, Rotimi Oyedepo.
