Community Estate provides self with Transformer after two Years [video]

There will be no more darkness as ‘The Elite Estate’, along Okpanam road, behind the Cornerstone School – took the bull by its horn by providing a transformer for itself.

The transformer was provided to restore electricity supply to the Estate after two years of living in darkness.

The Secretary to the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Patrick Ochie disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba.

While thanking the committee for work adequately done, he said that the development was accomplished through the steps of the Landlords and some cooperating Tenants who came together and inaugurated an Estate Exco to seek a solution to the perennial electricity challenges facing the area.

Ochei said a Real Estate expert and a landlord in the Estate, Mr. Peter Kifordu was appointed Chairman light committee to spearhead the task of getting a transformer for the Estate, in synergy with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.

Swinging into action, the Committee within one month, raised N3.5 million out of which N3.350 million was expended as landing cost of procuring the transformer.

It was gathered that the Committee initially set a target of N5 million for the purchase of the transformer, buying other accessories, paying a contractor to install the transformer, repairing the existing lines, and other logistics.

As of today, It was learnt that the Estate has exceeded the N5 million target as landlords and tenants are cooperating well, having seen the transparent way the Committee is handling the self-help project of the Estate.

On his part, Chairman of the Light Exco, Mr. Peter Kifordu commended the landlords and tenants in the Estate for believing in him to champion the self-help project of having electricity restored in the Estate after two years.

Kifordu, therefore, called on the Government and BEDC to always live up to expectations in meeting the necessary needs of the people, stressing it was the sole responsibility of government and BEDC to provide electricity for the citizens.

According to him, “We pay our taxes and having given the leaders our collective mandate, it is our right to enjoy dividends of democracy. We are not asking for too much; all we ask is to give us constant electricity, give us good roads, provide standard education for our children. Therefore you will see the citizens playing their part towards national unity and progress.

“I want to commend the landlords and tenants in the Estate for a job well done because it was their collective effort that yielded positive results”, Kifordu said.

Other members of the committee were the Chairman of landlords in the Elite Estate, Comrade Frank Omoko, Mr. Stephen Francis Orizu, Comrade Uche Urchman, Mr. Airueghian Lastborn, Mr. Blackie Umukoro, Mr Momodu O Moses, and
Dr. Jaybee

It is on record that a 500KVA Transformer had been installed by Engr. Henry Isicheli of Mupec Electrical Ventures while the lines are being worked on to ensure every house gets light when the transformer is finally energized.

Meanwhile, the transformer was switched on Sunday 13th December to enable the Estate to experience the presence of a New Dawn of a lighted environment, while the light will fully come on stream on Thursday 17th December.
