The Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Friday, March 26, dissolved a six-year-old marriage between a cleric, Abdulrasheed Olalere, and his wife Mariam for infidelity.
It was gathered that the Cleric filed for divorce against his wife after accusing her of infidelity.
Olalere caught his wife, Mariam in bed with another man when she was four months pregnant.
According to the Cleric, he said, he caught her with another man, still settled with her and accepted her back.
He said, “She was just four months pregnant when I caught Mariam in bed with another man. I was angry with her but we settled the matter.”
The Cleric further explained that the man also laid claims to the baby, he said, “I accepted her back after medical reports, revealed that the date given by the man proved him wrong about the date of the pregnancy.
News Agency of Nigeria reports reveals that the Cleric added that, after the interventions by different people, things started going on smoothly between them until his wife went back to her lover.
NAN reports that the man said, he caught his wife trying to escape with the same man again, the man said, Mariam, is wayward.
While reacting to the allegations, the woman didn’t deny that she attempted to escape with her ex-boyfriend rather she insisted that her husband is irresponsible and uncaring.
However, the President of the Court, Chief Ademola Odunade held the marriage be dissolved in the interest of peace, stating that, the marriage was not built on a solid foundation of love and trust.
The President of the Court, also directed the custody of the child to the woman, while direct the man to be paying N5, 000 for the monthly upkeep of the child.
