CKay hit song ‘Love Nwantiti’ has topped the number one position on the first-ever Billboard Afrobeat chart.
The inaugural list on the chart comprises the top 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States from March 29 to April 2.
In the list, Fireboy DML’s ‘Peru’ remix featuring Ed Sheeran came second while Wizkid ‘Essence’ remix featuring Justin Bieber and Tems tool the third spot.
‘Attention’, the joint song by Omah Lay and Justin Bieber took the fourth spot on the chart with ‘Free Mind’ by Tems closing the top five.
Billboard had first declared openly that the music chart would be done based on a weighted formula.
This, it said, will incorporate official streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services as well as download sales from top music retailers.
Obi Asika, Afro Nation founder, said the initiative was advised by the rising influence of the Afrobeats in the global music terrain.
“The last decade has seen Afrobeats explode into a worldwide phenomenon, influencing culture and fashion across the globe and I am humbled to have contributed to growing the genre alongside many talented, passionate people.”
