A well-known native doctor in Anambra State, Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba, has been arrested by Agunechemba, a local security group in the state. His arrest happened on Saturday evening in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Why Was He Arrested?
Authorities believe that Akwa Okuko has been preparing special charms for criminals. According to reports, these criminals pretend to be Yahoo boys (internet fraudsters) but are actually kidnappers who have been causing trouble in the state.
New Law Against Charms and Crimes
Because of the rising crime rate, the Anambra State government introduced a new law in 2025 called the Anambra State Homeland Security Law. This law makes it illegal for native doctors to prepare charms that criminals use for protection or wealth. Some of these charms include:
- Odeshi – A charm believed to make people bulletproof.
- Okeite – A powerful charm linked to money rituals.
- Mkpu Egbe – A protective spell for criminals.
Under this law, anyone caught making or promoting these charms could be jailed for six years, fined N20 million, or face both punishments.
What Happens Next?
After his arrest, Akwa Okuko was detained for further questioning by security officials. The authorities are investigating whether he has been helping criminals stay protected from law enforcement.
The case has sparked a lot of discussions in Anambra, with many people waiting to see what will happen next.
