Brymo features in the movie adaptation of Soyinka’s book

Nigerian music star, Brymo, has made his acting debut on the set of the ‘Death And The King’s Horseman’, a movie adaptation of Professor Wole Soyinka’s book.

In the upcoming movie, he played the role of Olohun Iyo ( the praise singer).

The singer disclosed this on his Twitter page on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, revealing that he was in “a mild panic” while shooting the film.

He also added that he cannot wait for the release of the project.

According to his post, he stated that “Being on the set of ‘The King’s Horseman’ had me diving so deep in time that at the end of the shoot I was in a mild panic; ‘what will I do with my life now?’. I can’t wait for you to meet my character – Olohun iyo. (the praise singer).”

The project — a movie adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s 1975 play with the same title — is inspired by Abudu’s EbonyLife Studios in collaboration with Netflix.

The movie directed by Biyi Bandele follows the story of a king’s horseman who is forbidden from perpetrating ritual suicide by the colonial authorities.

In June 2020, Netflix partnered with Mo Abudu for the film adaptation of books by Soyinka and Lola Shoneyin, the novelist.

TheCable Lifestyle reported that the singer had also featured in a movie ‘Price of Admission’, a short film that addressed the payola culture in the music industry earlier in June this year.

Brymo has established himself as a household name in the Nigerian music industry with several hit projects.

Recently, the singer has also been in the social space in various circumstances over his ambiguous statements.

In October, he had alleged that 2Baba once falsely accused him of sleeping with his wife, Annie Idibia.
