The Court of Appeal has granted the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) the request to reconfigure the Bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) before the gubernatorial and House of Assembly election scheduled to hold on March 11.
A three-member panel of the court led by Joseph Ikyegh, on Wednesday, ruled for INEC to reconfigure the machine. According to the court, restraining the electoral commission will deprive it of conducting the election.
Recall, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi had sought an order of the court to “restrict the 1st respondent (INEC) from interfering with the data embedded in the BVAS until a due process of inspecting the machine is been completed and certified true copies (CTC) issued.
