President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the 2021 supplementary appropriation Bill into law on Monday.
The supplementary budget will be used to fund health and security and was figured at N982,729,695,343.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President of the National Assembly, Umar El-Yakub while briefing State House Correspondents after the signing in Abuja.
The supplementary budget comes one month after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided by President Buhari approved a draft of the bill.
While giving reasons for the budget, President Buhari explained that it is for the procurement of equipment for the military and medical infrastructure as well as Covid-19 vaccines.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed revealed that the budget amount to N770.60 bn and will improve the capacity of the defense and the security agencies to address the current and emerging security challenges facing the country.
The minister explained that N83.56bn expenditure is set aside in the budget for the Covid-19 vaccine program covering 30 million vaccines from Johnson and Johnson and the logistics costs related to the deployment of the vaccines.
Also, the minister explained that the budget will provide N40bn to cater for the allowances to the health, education sectors, and other wage-related issues, adding that N1.69bn will be for the Nigeria Comprehensive AIDS Programme.
