On Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari sack Mohammed Adamu before the expiration of his tenure extension and appointed a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba to immediately take over as the acting IGP.
Recall how IGP Adamu’s tenure was extended after successful completion of his 35 years of service by three months on February 4, as the Inspector General of Police.
This was disclosed to newsmen in the State House by the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi.
The Minister explained that the appointment was made after careful consideration on issues of competence, professionalism, and experience in service.
According to the Minister, the President has urged the newly appointed IGP to ensure policies that are fully prioritized in the police reform to promote peace in the country.
Before the appointment, Alkali, was DIG, Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID).
The new acting IGP was born in 1963 and joined the Nigerian Police Force in March 1988.
He has a master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a BA (ED) in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and Bayero University, Kano respectively.
Alkali has also held several strategic positions in the past which include Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone-5 Benin, Zone-4 Makurdi, Zone-7 Abuja, Commissioner of Police FCT, and Delta Commands amongst others.
Alkali was a member of the National Defence College and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
