Breaking: Academic activities shut down in all Polytechnics

Today, the Academy Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) announced the commencement of an indefinite strike.

The announcement was made known during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday by the ASUP President, Anderson Ezeibe.

Ezeibe mentioned that all academic activities will be shut down in polytechnic nationwide with effect from midnight.

Ezeibe said, last week, the Union had warned that it will go on strike on April 6, if the federal government failed to meet its demands.

According to him, the union demands were communicated to the ministries of education, labor, and other state governors but nothing was done about it.

He said the Federal Government have not paid 10 months’ arrears in the new minimum wage, stating that, some state governments had yet to implement the new minimum wage for their members.

He also gave other reasons including the Federal Government’s failure to address the non-reconstitution of the governing councils in the polytechnics.
