What Happened?
Brazil’s President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, recently spoke out about former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that Trump should focus on running the United States instead of trying to control the world.
Lula made these comments during a radio interview on Thursday, as reported by the Brazilian newspaper Folha De S. Paulo. He was reacting to Trump’s suggestion that Palestinians should be removed from Gaza, an idea that many people around the world strongly oppose.
Lula’s Message to Trump
Lula made it clear that while he respects the fact that Trump was elected, his job is to govern the United States, not interfere in other countries.
“Trump was elected to govern the United States, not to rule the world,” Lula said during an interview with Bahia-based radio stations Metrópole and Sociedade.
He also stressed that countries should work together peacefully and respect each other’s independence instead of one country trying to control others.
A Hidden Message for Elon Musk?
Lula also talked about how one person shouldn’t have too much power over global communication. Though he didn’t mention Elon Musk directly, many believe he was referring to the billionaire, who owns X (formerly Twitter) and has supported Trump in the past.
Lula warned that businesspeople should not use their power to influence elections or spread negative messages about other countries.
“What cannot happen is for us to think that a businessman can own global communications and interfere in countries’ elections,” Lula said.
Why This Matters
Lula’s comments reflect concerns that some world leaders, including Trump, may be trying to control global events in ways that could harm democracy. He believes that countries should work together in a fair and respectful way rather than having a few powerful individuals decide what happens worldwide.
His words also come at a time when people are questioning the role of big businesses in politics, especially as tech companies and social media platforms have a huge impact on public opinion and elections.
