Tragedy struck in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday morning when a Dangote truck lost control and crashed into traders and passersby near Oko Market, close to the Onitsha Toll Gate.
The accident, which happened around 11:15 am, claimed the lives of at least eight people on the spot, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was speeding before it lost control and ran into the crowded roadside, where many traders and pedestrians were carrying out their daily activities.
Emergency responders quickly rushed the injured victims to St. Rebecca Hospital in Mami Market, Asaba, for urgent treatment.
As of the time of this report, officials had cordoned off the scene to prevent further casualties and ease traffic congestion.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but rescue operations and investigations are ongoing.
