Anambra State, Nigeria — Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced that his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), will support President Bola Tinubu as their presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.
Governor Soludo made this announcement on Thursday when President Tinubu visited Anambra State. The President came to open some important projects completed by the state government.
Soludo is currently the only governor in Nigeria from APGA and is also the leader of the party. He said APGA has a long-standing rule, or policy, of supporting the sitting president, meaning the person who is already in office.
This rule started in 2011, even before Soludo joined the party in 2013. That year, APGA decided to work with the president at the time and supported him during the elections. Soludo said this decision is based on what he called “progressive” ideas, which means believing in good changes and improvements for the country.
He explained that APGA and the current federal government, led by President Tinubu, both believe in these same “progressive” ideas. So, because of that, APGA will continue to support the president.
“In 2011, APGA agreed to support the party and government at the centre,” Soludo said. “Today, that government is led by President Tinubu, and our party is still following that same policy. APGA and the federal government are working well together, and we plan to continue like that.”
In simple terms, Governor Soludo and APGA are saying they want to team up with President Tinubu for the next election because they share the same ideas and want to keep helping the country grow.
