APC Blasts Peter Obi, Atiku, El-Rufai for Forming ‘Unholy Alliance’

Abuja, August 5, 2025 – The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, accusing them of forming a political alliance that poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s unity and development.

The APC made this statement in reaction to the new opposition coalition being built around the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition is expected to serve as a platform for the 2027 elections to challenge the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s continued leadership.

What Triggered the Response?

The backlash came shortly after El-Rufai granted an interview warning that Nigeria would be in danger if President Tinubu is re-elected in 2027.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party accused the three opposition figures of attempting to hijack the ADC in what it called an “unholy alliance” aimed at unseating Tinubu.

“The decision of Atiku and El-Rufai to take over the ADC structure, in collaboration with Peter Obi and others, is not only politically opportunistic but a grave danger to Nigeria’s peace and progress,” Morka said.

APC’s Claims Against the Opposition Leaders

According to Morka, Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai have abandoned their reform promises and are now united mainly by their dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s leadership and their loss in the 2023 elections.

“In a classic display of hypocrisy, Atiku and Obi, who themselves campaigned on reform platforms, have now turned against the very policies they once promised to Nigerians, simply because they lost at the polls,” Morka said.

He also added that the trio, by aligning under the ADC, “constitute a clear and present threat to the unity, peace, and progress of our nation.”

What Is the ADC Coalition About?

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently being used as a base for an emerging opposition coalition made up of several political figures and parties. This coalition is expected to serve as a major challenger to the APC’s control in the 2027 general elections.

Although Peter Obi is still officially a member of the Labour Party, and Atiku belongs to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), their involvement with the ADC coalition has raised questions about possible realignments ahead of the next election.

What It Means for the 2027 Elections

This war of words signals the beginning of what may become a fierce political battle ahead of 2027. As new alliances are being formed, and political leaders begin to declare their intentions, the future of Nigeria’s democracy, leadership, and stability is again in the spotlight.

For young Nigerians, especially new voters, this is a critical moment to stay informed, ask questions, and get involved in shaping the country’s direction.
