What Happened?
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of causing problems in his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). APC says Atiku is desperate for power and that his actions have led to PDP’s struggles.
What Did Atiku Say?
Atiku recently spoke at a conference in Abuja, where he criticized Nigeria’s democracy. He claimed that the government was using money to weaken opposition parties, saying that President Bola Tinubu was paying some opposition leaders ₦50 million each to create confusion.
How Did APC Respond?
APC strongly denied these claims, calling them false and ridiculous. The party reminded Nigerians that when Atiku was Vice President, PDP controlled elections in a way that was unfair to other parties. APC also said that Atiku himself has often used the courts to fight election results, so he should not complain about judicial involvement now.
What’s Next?
APC advised Atiku to focus on fixing his party instead of making accusations. The party also said that opposition leaders, including Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai, should stop blaming APC for their own internal problems. According to APC, Nigerians should ignore politicians who only want to stay relevant before the next election in 2027.
