Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari was “100 times better.”
Amaechi made the remarks during a discussion on X (formerly Twitter) Space, where he complained about the rising cost of living and worsening economic conditions in Nigeria.
“For Christ’s sake, were you dying of hunger? What we pay here is ₦1 million every week for power—₦4 million in a month. How many people can afford that?” he asked.
He compared the two governments, saying, “It was not like that when Buhari was in power. Why are we comparing diamond to gold? In fact, this government is not even gold at all.”
Amaechi’s statement comes after he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He is now part of a new political alliance with notable politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The group’s goal is to challenge and defeat the current government in the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi pledged full support for the ADC’s presidential candidate, provided the party’s primary election is free and fair. “I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything in my power to help ADC unseat this current clueless government,” he said.
He also shared his personal political plans. If elected president, Amaechi said he would cancel the ongoing coastal road project, calling it “a road for stealing.” He promised that electoral reforms would be his priority, describing them as “the lowest-hanging fruit” that he would deliver within his first six months in office.
Amaechi’s comments have sparked reactions across political circles, especially as he was once a key member of the APC and a loyal supporter of Buhari.
