The Vice-Chancellor of Admiralty University of Nigeria, ADUN, Prof. Paul Omojo Omaji said the institution is committed to the principle of excellence In education, integrity, and respect for hard work.
The VC said the goal of the university set up by the Nigerian Navy is to raise luminary leaders as it was not established merely to issue certificates.
Professor Omaji stated this during the 2nd Convocation ceremony of the institution on Thursday, stating that the triumph stories of the university were an outcome of the continuous support of the Nigerian Navy.
Omaji said all the academic activities carried out in the institution were in line with the standard set aside by the Nigerian Navy, as they do not encourage any certificate that did not originate from the university.
He said in ADUN, the nature of the leadership, the commitment of the staff, and the willingness of the students to run with the discipline set up by the university in its operation is what makes the institution so unique, stating that the graduates were prepared to face the challenges of the society.
The Vice-Chancellor further put in words that the university started its programs with 95 percent of its students being presidential amnesty program delegates. Yet, they were able to convocate them in November 2022, which happened to be their first set.
Prof Omaji called on parents to bring in their kids while articulating that the institution has likewise strengthened its cordial relationship with the two host communities, Ibuza and Ogwashi-uku.
The Chief of Naval Staff, vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, in his speech during the ceremony applauded the management for producing future luminary leaders, while also notifying the graduates to take up what they have learned to put forward solutions to challenges they might face in the outside world.
Also speaking is the Governor of Delta State, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, who congratulated the graduating students for fulfilling the requirements of the institution and charged them to take up a resourceful approach and be thought highly of as representatives of the university.
Oborevwori commended the management and staff of the institution for taking care of human capital development which he said is one of the focal points of the state government.
The Governor also thanked the Nigerian Navy for establishing the institution in the state while also guaranteeing adequate partnership with the institution.
On his part, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by Mrs. Stella Ugochukwu, Director of the Federal Ministry of Education said his administration places a high premium on quality education to equip youths for active participation in governance in nation-building.
President Tinubu said his administration is also committed to the welfare of both teaching and non-teaching staff in tertiary institutions and students to enable them to meet their educational needs.
According to him, the Nigerian Navy has done nobly for the vision to bear the dignified education institution with the main objectives of developing limitations of knowledge in various professions, particularly in the naval and marine time-space.
Tinubu encouraged the graduates to use the knowledge built up from the university as a tool for the expansion and enhancement of human well-being and to solve societal challenges in Nigeria.
While calling on the youths to take advantage of the students’ free loans to dive into their academic financial challenges in the quest for their education, the President also suggested that stakeholders and supporters should accompany the government in the areas of research, structuring development, and awards of scholarships to the best-graduating students.
Cash awards were presented to the best-graduating students of the institution and others who have contributed to the growth of the university.
