A 36-year-old Nigerian doctor named Dr. Ikenna Erinne, who lived in the United States, has sadly passed away. Reports say he took his own life after a very difficult court case about child support.
Dr. Erinne was a cardiologist, which means he was a heart doctor. He had been in a long and tough divorce battle with his ex-wife over their children and money. A U.S. court ruled that he had to pay $15,000 every month to support his children. This decision made him very stressed, and he reportedly died by suicide on January 26, 2025.
What Happened?
Dr. Erinne was from Anambra State in Nigeria. He had been fighting in court for a long time about his divorce and custody of his kids. The court ruled in favour of his ex-wife, and he was ordered to pay a lot of money every month. This made life very hard for him.
A man named Clayton Udo, who is also Nigerian and lives in the U.S., shared the news on X.com (formerly Twitter). He said the court’s decision was unfair and caused Dr. Erinne a lot of stress. He also said that Dr. Erinne lost his job as a cardiologist because of the case.
Clayton Udo wrote:
“The abuse of African men in the USA must come to an end. Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after a court ordered him to pay $15,000 monthly. This shows how the legal system can be unfair to African men.”
Another person, Obim Onujiogu, shared on Facebook that Dr. Erinne was a kind and caring doctor and a loving father. He said Dr. Erinne’s funeral will be held on February 3, 2025, in Maryland, U.S.
Why Is This Important?
