The Chief Imam of Enagi town in Edati Local Government area of Niger State, Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan has been stabbed to death by a 35-year-old man, Umaru Jibrin for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his wife, Aisha Umar.
It was gathered that Jibrin stab the 48-year-old Islamic cleric in the neck when he called for peace talks after been caught in the act.
Jibrin, while narrating the incident after been arrested by the Police at the state Headquarters in Minna stated that, when he saw the cleric on top of his wife, said, Haba Imam why must you do this to me? While also making his wife what is she looking for?
According to Jibrin, he explained that he went out after asking them the question to see his brother, Abubakar Abdulrahman to inform him of what he saw.
But, he said, not quite long, the Imam sent for him for peace talk and plead that the matter is concealed from the public.
Jibrin while still narrating stated that, however, an argument ensued in the process which allegedly made him forcefully collect the rod in the hand of the Chief Imam and stabbed him in the neck.
However, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun told journalists that when the incident occurred, the suspect took to his heels but was later arrested at Batali village in Lavun Local Government Area of the state.
Also, Abiodun maintains that some youths mobilized to the police station in a jungle justice but the policemen had to intervene.
While still speaking, he advised the general public to desist from taking laws into their hands, stating that investigation into the incident was already ongoing, adding that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
