26 Die as Deadly Disease Spreads in Kebbi State

A serious disease called cerebrospinal meningitis has killed 26 people in Kebbi State. The state government said the disease spread in Aliero, Gwandu, and Jega areas.

Meningitis is a dangerous infection that affects the brain and spinal cord. It can spread from one person to another. People with the disease may have fever, headaches, a stiff neck, vomiting, and trouble looking at bright lights. If not treated quickly, it can cause death.

The Kebbi State Commissioner for Health, Musa Ismaila, said 248 people have been suspected of having the disease. Doctors tested 11 samples, but only two came back negative. The results of the other nine are still being checked.

The government is working with health organizations like the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF to stop the disease. They have given N30 million to buy medicines and supplies. Isolation centers have also been set up to treat sick people.

Health officials are telling people to be careful and report any signs of the disease to a hospital quickly.
