2022: Grammy Awards Organizers Announces New Date, Venue

The Organizers of the Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy which honour top performances in music have announced that this year awards will be held in Las Vegas on April 3.

The Recording Academy announced this in a statement on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

According to the statement, the award ceremony which was previously scheduled to hold on January 31, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Los Angeles, has been shifted due to the Omicron variant that has sparked a new wave of Covid-19 infections.

In the statement, the Recording Academy said the Grammy Awards will now hold at the MGM Grand Garden Center in Las Vegas.

The statement also stated the ceremony will be televised and streamed live from the venue, adding that Trevor Noah, the ace comedian, will be returning as host to this year’s awards as he did last year.

Recall, this is the second time that the award event will be rescheduled in two years.

In 2021, the Grammy Awards which was initially scheduled to take place in January was eventually shifted to March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, the nomination list for the 2022 awards was released in November last year with a number of Nigerian artistes among the nominees.

According to the list that was released, Wizkid was nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category for ‘Essence’, his collaborative song with Tems.

Also nominated in the category is ‘Pa Pa Pa’ by Femi Kuti and ‘Do Yourself’ by Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy.

Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos’ album and ‘Legacy +’ by Femi and Made Kuti were put up in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category.

In 2021, Burna Boy’s body of work, became the first Afrobeats album, ‘Twice As Tall’, to win a Grammy award.
