14 Pastors Dead as Leadership Crisis Rages in Apostolic Church

The Apostolic Church in Akwa Ibom State has found itself at the centre of a growing controversy, as the deaths of 14 clergymen have sparked serious concerns about internal conflict and alleged persecution within the Oron Area of the church.

Apostle Isaac Uye, Field Superintendent of The Apostolic Church in Oro Field and a National Evangelist, has publicly suggested that these deaths are the result of divine retribution linked to opposition against his leadership. In a recent media interaction, Apostle Uye alleged that those who stood against him in the church had experienced consequences as part of a spiritual battle.

According to Apostle Uye, the deceased clergymen had supported a campaign led by Apostle Effiong Okon Uye, another key figure in the church, which allegedly sought to discredit and humiliate him. He further claimed that a local herbalist was enlisted to bring harm to him through mystical means. Uye recounted that a “mystical bird” was sent to kill him, but divine intervention spared him, and the bird was destroyed by fire.

“The Lord delivered me from those who persecuted me,” Apostle Uye told journalists, referring to his survival as evidence of divine favor. However, while reconciliation efforts have reportedly been initiated by Apostle Effiong Okon Uye, Apostle Uye has insisted that any apology or attempt at peace must be as public as the persecution he endured. “I have not forgiven them because they have not shown remorse,” he said firmly.

The church’s internal conflicts have escalated beyond spiritual disagreements, with several legal battles unfolding in the courts. Apostle Uye revealed that he faced three lawsuits brought against him by opponents, two of which he won while the third was withdrawn. He described the lawsuits as part of a coordinated effort to ruin his reputation. Notably, accusations of adultery and other serious offenses were lodged against him but later dismissed, with key witnesses reportedly retracting their statements.

Apostle Uye did not shy away from criticizing the current leadership of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, accusing them of harboring diabolical and unjust practices. He described his disillusionment with the leadership’s failure to address these serious issues, leaving a cloud of suspicion over their governance.

The deaths of the 14 clergymen have sent shockwaves through the church community, raising questions about the nature of these internal conflicts and whether more efforts should be made to address longstanding grievances. As tensions remain unresolved, the future of the Apostolic Church in Akwa Ibom hangs in the balance, with church members calling for peace and transparency.

This unfolding crisis not only highlights the deep divisions within the church but also sheds light on the dangers of unresolved conflicts in religious institutions. Many are now wondering how the church leadership will respond to growing concerns about spiritual and moral integrity amidst these tragic events.
