Support for the creation of Anioma State, spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko, has gained momentum as three key lawmakers from Delta State have expressed their approval for the initiative. These lawmakers, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Hon. Ngozi Okolie of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Nicholas Ossai, have voiced their support for the proposal, seeing it as a path to greater equity, representation, and development for the Anioma people.
During a recent discussion with reporters in Asaba, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi emphasized his commitment to the creation of Anioma State, noting that it would ensure a more balanced representation and bring the government closer to the people. “The creation of Anioma State is beneficial to our citizens and will enhance our region’s growth,” Ezechi stated. He affirmed that his constituents also stand behind this cause.
Similarly, Hon. Ngozi Okolie, during the Anioma Stakeholders Summit in Asaba, lent his support to the state creation, while Hon. Nicholas Ossai echoed these sentiments at the same event. Both legislators emphasized the importance of fair representation and opportunities for Anioma sons and daughters to have more active roles in governance.
The summit also saw strong backing from traditional rulers in the region, who lauded Senator Nwoko for championing the cause and outlining the benefits of state creation. Nwoko highlighted that establishing Anioma State would not only improve governance but also open doors for increased participation in both elective and appointive government positions.
Addressing the question of whether Anioma State would be placed in the South-South or South-East region, Senator Nwoko explained that the decision rests with the federal government. However, he reassured the people of Delta North that the primary focus is on the advantages the new state would bring, regardless of the regional classification.
With growing support from lawmakers, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders, the push for Anioma State continues to gather strength, with proponents confident that the move will lead to greater development and prosperity for the Anioma people.
