Governor Oborevwori Unveils MORE Grant Scheme, Empowering Thousands of Deltans

In a remarkable move to uplift the lives of the underprivileged, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, launched the MORE Grant Scheme on Thursday. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive support to petty traders, artisans, and female entrepreneurs across the state, benefitting a staggering 5,426 individuals from poor and vulnerable households.

During the formal launch held at the prestigious Event Centre in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori expressed his admiration for the hardworking artisans, traders, and entrepreneurs who often go unnoticed despite being the backbone of local economies. He acknowledged their invaluable contributions and pledged the state government’s unwavering commitment to support their endeavors.

The MORE Grant Scheme, according to the Governor, is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change. It offers critical resources that will help small businesses scale up and improve the livelihoods of hardworking Deltans. Addressing the petty traders from poor and vulnerable households, Governor Oborevwori recognized their relentless efforts to secure a brighter future for their families and communities through their small businesses.

The Governor declared, “The MORE Grant Scheme will continue to provide you with the financial assistance necessary to improve your businesses. We are determined to transform your small ventures into flourishing enterprises, thereby enhancing the quality of life for our people and contributing to the economic growth of our state.”

Furthermore, Governor Oborevwori urged artisans to utilize their skills, craftsmanship, and dedication to preserve the state’s rich cultural heritage through creative innovation. He emphasized that the grants distributed would enable artisans to acquire better tools, access quality materials, and tap into wider markets, thus taking the traditions of Delta State to new heights.

The Governor also praised the resilience and innovation of female entrepreneurs, commending them for breaking barriers and setting new standards despite numerous challenges. The MORE Grant Scheme, he assured, is dedicated to empowering these women and providing them with the necessary resources and mentorship to grow their businesses and inspire others to follow suit.

To ensure the success of the beneficiaries, Governor Oborevwori announced that the state would offer workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs. These initiatives aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive market. The Governor envisions fostering a community of empowered individuals who collaborate, innovate, and uplift one another.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development, Orode Uduaghan, emphasized that the MORE Grant Scheme consists of three phases, each carefully designed to empower specific segments of the state’s population. The first phase targets the heart of the local economy, the petty traders, who make immeasurable contributions to the tapestry of communities in Delta State. Uduaghan highlighted the significance of even a small additional capital for these traders, who work tirelessly to make a living.

Keynote speakers at the event, Weyinmi Eribo and Nneka Okekearu, emphasized the importance of human capital development as a means to break the cycle of poverty. They commended the Governor for providing resources to nurture small and medium-scale enterprises. Eribo and Okekearu pledged to collaborate with the state government through their agencies to mentor young entrepreneurs from the MORE Grant Scheme, guiding them towards the growth and establishment of large-scale businesses.

Lastly, some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Paul Onwochei, Ogemuno Endurance, and Shodipe Gbubemi Sarah, expressed their gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for the opportunity to expand their businesses. They also appealed to him to sustain the program, allowing more Deltans to benefit from this remarkable initiative.

The event concluded with the symbolic presentation of cheques to several beneficiaries, representing the thousands of individuals who will receive support through the MORE Grant Scheme. With this groundbreaking initiative, Delta State is poised to uplift its people, foster economic growth, and empower its communities for a brighter future.
