In a remarkable event held in Asaba, Nigeria, former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan officially inaugurated the Delta State High Court Complex. The ceremony also marked the presentation of 20 brand new Toyota Prado Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the judges of the state, a gesture that received widespread praise.

During his speech at the inauguration, Jonathan commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to the infrastructural development of Delta State and his determination to continue the progress initiated by previous administrations. The former President emphasized the significance of certain projects and the expectation for continuity, stating, “There are some projects that are very fundamental to the growth and development of the state, and we expect anybody who takes over government to continue with them, and you are doing exactly that.”

Jonathan further commended Governor Oborevwori for his responsible financial management, specifically highlighting his decision to return unutilized funds amounting to over N500 million to the State treasury during his tenure as Speaker of the State House of Assembly. This act of integrity spoke volumes about Oborevwori’s character and earned him the former President’s trust. Jonathan encouraged the Governor to continue managing the state’s resources in a manner that positively impacts the lives of its people.

In his address, Jonathan called upon the citizens of Delta State to support Governor Oborevwori in his efforts to drive overall development in the state. He emphasized that undermining the government for political reasons ultimately harms the progress of both the state and the nation as a whole. The former President stressed the importance of fostering an environment where public officials can succeed and effectively utilize public resources for the greater good of the people.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed his commitment to completing projects inherited from previous administrations, emphasizing the completion of the High Court building as one of his top priorities. He acknowledged the judiciary’s need for a suitable facility and commended the completion of the project, which would now provide a befitting office space for the judiciary to carry out its duties.

The Governor fulfilled his promise by presenting 20 Toyota Prado SUVs to the judges of Delta State. This gesture aimed to enhance their mobility and ensure their comfort while performing their judicial responsibilities. Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude to former President Jonathan for gracing the occasion and praised his outstanding leadership qualities, both during his time in office and beyond.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Godknows Angele, highlighted the impressive features of the new Delta State High Court Complex. The building boasts five floors, six courtrooms, six conference halls, holding cells, secretarial offices, lounges, and a library, among other essential facilities. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, represented by Hon. Justice Bolaji Yusuf of the Court of Appeal, Asaba Division, commended the state government for providing such a magnificent temple of justice. Justice Theresa Diai, the Chief Judge of Delta State, also expressed her gratitude to Governor Oborevwori and his predecessors for their commitment to justice and excellence in the judiciary.

The new High Court Complex is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including internet access and other critical IT facilities, facilitating e-filing of court processes and e-payments for services rendered by the High Court of Justice. The state’s investment in modern infrastructure aligns with the goal of enhancing efficiency and accessibility within the judicial system.

The inauguration of the Delta High Court Complex and the presentation of the SUVs showcased the state government’s dedication to the rule of law and the well-being of its judges. This significant milestone serves as a testament to Delta State’s commitment to justice, progress, and the overall development of the state.
