Faith Fracas: Catholic Priest Allegedly Bites Woman During Communion

ST. CLOUD, Fla. – A Catholic priest, Father Fidel Rodriguez, has found himself at the centre of controversy after being accused of biting a woman who allegedly attempted to grab Holy Communion wafers during Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in St. Cloud, Florida.

The incident, which occurred last Sunday afternoon, has sparked heated debates within the community, with the Diocese of Orlando coming forward to defend Father Rodriguez. While the diocese does not condone physical altercations, they assert that the priest was acting in good faith to prevent the desecration of the Holy Communion, a duty sacred to his role.

According to the police report, the woman, whose name has been redacted, claimed that Father Rodriguez initially denied her participation in Communion during the morning service. Undeterred, she returned that afternoon, only to allege that the priest forcefully tried to administer the wafer to her mouth. In response, she attempted to grab another Communion wafer that Father Rodriguez was holding, which led to a physical altercation. The woman stated that the priest grabbed her and bit her arm.

However, when authorities arrived at the church, Father Rodriguez offered a different account of the incident. He explained that he denied the woman Communion during the morning service because she seemed unfamiliar with the requirements for participation. Later, during the afternoon service, he claimed that she pushed him and attempted to seize a tray of Communion wafers. In an effort to prevent what he believed to be sacrilege, Father Rodriguez said he grabbed her arm and, when she refused to release the wafers, resorted to biting her.

Bystanders at the church intervened and managed to separate the priest and the woman, with some providing video evidence that supported Father Rodriguez’s version of events. The police have since forwarded their report to the prosecutors, who will decide whether formal charges should be filed.

The incident has ignited a passionate debate within the community, with opinions divided on whether the priest’s actions were justified or excessive. The Diocese of Orlando, while acknowledging the physical altercation was regrettable, emphasized that Father Rodriguez’s intentions were rooted in protecting the sanctity of the Holy Communion.

As the investigation continues, the community awaits further developments to shed light on this unusual and contentious incident that unfolded within the solemn walls of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
