Delta: Governor Oborevwori Marks 1st Year Anniversary

Asaba, Delta State – In a momentous celebration marking the first anniversary of his administration, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori expressed his unwavering commitment to delivering on promises made and ensuring a brighter future for the people of Delta State.

Speaking at the State’s Praise and Worship Day, held at the prestigious Events Centre in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori encouraged the citizens to anticipate greater achievements and brace themselves for an exciting journey towards the transformational development of the state.

Governor Oborevwori proudly stated that his administration had remained steadfast in fulfilling the promises outlined in his MORE agenda, which has been the guiding principle of his governance over the past year.

One of the significant accomplishments highlighted by the governor was the restoration of the lost glory of Warri and its surroundings. He revealed that construction giant, Julius Berger, had been tirelessly working on the construction of three flyovers and a Cloverleaf Interchange in the vibrant twin cities of Warri and Effurun.

Emphasizing the commitment to excellence, Governor Oborevwori announced the termination of the contract for the Warri Township Stadium, assuring the people of Delta State that it would soon be reawarded to a competent firm, ensuring the delivery of a world-class stadium.

Reflecting on his campaign promises, the governor expressed his pride in fulfilling them promptly. He highlighted the resolution of unpaid promotion arrears for both serving and retired state public servants, as well as the long-standing issue of pension liabilities in local governments. Within three months of assuming office, his administration disbursed over N5.5 billion to 23,887 beneficiaries, including retired officers.

Addressing the persistent challenge of unpaid local government pensions, Governor Oborevwori announced that his administration had secured legislative approval for local governments to obtain a N40 billion bank loan. This loan, guaranteed by the state government, would allow the local government councils to settle their pension liabilities over a five-year period.

The governor also took pride in the ongoing reconstruction efforts in Warri and its environs. The completion of Upper and Lower Erejuwa, as well as the Esisi road corridor, along with the progress on other adjoining streets, promises to transform the landscape and alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted Delta State’s recognition as the safest state for oil and gas investments in Nigeria in 2024, as awarded by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources. He pledged to maintain strong partnerships with security agencies to ensure the continued safety of lives and property for all Deltans.

The governor expressed his commitment to social welfare programs, including the MORE Grant Scheme and D-CARES, which have already benefited thousands of Deltans. He reassured the people that these initiatives would continue to be expanded.

Recognizing the importance of a motivated workforce, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the prompt payment of promotion arrears and other incentives to boost the morale of the state workforce.

In his address, the Governor commended his predecessors for their support and called upon them to continue contributing to the growth and development of the state.

The celebration also featured a thought-provoking sermon delivered by the former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Papa Ayo Oritsejafor. He praised Governor Oborevwori for choosing to express gratitude to God on this auspicious occasion, highlighting the power of praise in attaining breakthroughs and overcoming challenges.

Papa Oritsejafor urged the Governor to remain steadfast in putting God first in the affairs of the state, congratulating him on a remarkable first year in office.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo, in his welcome address, reminded all Deltans of the significance of the Delta Praise Day, established by law. He encouraged everyone to join in praising God for the accomplishments and progress achieved under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership during the past year.

As the first year anniversary celebrations concluded, the atmosphere in Asaba was filled with hope and anticipation, as Deltans eagerly looked forward to the promising future that lies ahead under Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
